Božo (Boja) Vasić – “Dislocation – When Your World Gets Turned Upside Down”

The exhibition “Dislocation – When Your World Gets Turned Upside Down” explores the experience of exile on the route to Europe through a series of 20 photographs and two video works (“Between Borders” and “Crossing”). By combining documentary footage from migrant routes with archival images of destroyed cities, Vasić establishes a visual connection between the lost home and the uncertainty of transit. The works record not only physical displacement, but also document a profound dislocation — the disruption of life’s continuity, identity, and sense of belonging.The title of the exhibition reflects a dramatic turning point in which the stability of everyday life is irrevocably replaced by a space of waiting, control, and the struggle for the future. Focusing on individual human stories, the exhibition transcends the statistical categories of migration, inviting the viewer to reexamine their own relationship toward borders, home, and ethical responsibility toward those whose world has suddenly been turned upside down.

Božo (Boja) Vasić is a visual and media artist living and working between Toronto and Belgrade. He graduated in film direction from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade, after which he gained experience as a documentary film director.His artistic opus encompasses photography, video, film, and installation, focusing on the themes of exile, displacement, borders, and identity. Through the fusion of documentary records and poetic interpretation, Vasić examines the experience of the individual faced with the loss of home, drawing upon his personal experience of life in the former Yugoslavia within the context of global migration crises.Vasić has built a notable international career, exhibiting at prestigious events such as the biennials in Havana, Liverpool, Tirana, and Vila Nova de Cerveira. His works have been presented in numerous museums and galleries across Europe, North and South America, and Asia.
