Anne Rochette

Biography

Anne Rochette Born in 1957 in Oullins. Lives and works in Paris.Entirely dedicated to her medium, sculpture, Anne Rochette models, cuts, chisels, pours, mounts, shapes and fires shapes. Whatever the materials used, whether traditional or otherwise, the artist knows how to bend them to her desires and lend them the expression she chooses. Ceramic, wood, stone, resins, silicone, canvas etc. Lying between the figurative and the abstract, her hybrid works with an organic appearance, which can be located in the direct lineage of a Louise Bourgeois, diffuse their sensual presence and erotic charge wherever they are placed. Regularly requested for public outdoor commissions, her works can be seen, among others, in the Tuileries Garden, the Australian National University Sculpture Park in Canberra and the Centre Scolaire Nelson Mandela in Saint-Ouen. She recently exhibited at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and at the Museum of Art and Design in New York (2013), a city in which she lived between 1984 and 1990 and where she taught: she was a sculpture teacher at the Parson School of Design in New York, then at the Tyler College of Art in Philadelphia and finally at the Rhode Island School of Design. Very much taken up with her practice, she also shares her analysis and theories on sculpture in the review Art in America, co-signing with Wade Saunders.
