Born in Belgrade in 1948, Vasić graduated in 1971 and received his master’s degree in 1973 at the painting department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade under prof. Đorđe Bošan. As a scholar of the Fulbright program, he spent 1975/76. school year at the University of California in Santa Barbara and Los Angeles (UCSB & UCLA), where he studied video with prof. Mitsuru Kataoka and computer art with prof. John Whitney (John Whitney). He has been exhibiting since 1969 in the country and abroad. Since 1976, he has been dealing with video as a means of expression (tapes, installations, environments). He started painting murals in Belgrade in 1983 and created several works in public space. He has also been publishing professional and theoretical works in the field of visual arts since 1973, and from 1975 to 2013 he was a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade, where he taught Painting and Drawing. From 1984 to 2014, he also worked as a professor at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in the subjects of Art Culture, Art Genres and Visual Media. With Vladan Radovanović, he founded Interdisciplinary Art Studies at the University of the Arts in 2001 and was a professor at the group for multimedia art. Vasić was also the rector of the University of Arts from 2004 to 2009. He is the winner of the “Politica” award for 2013, as well as the “Sava Šumanović” award for 2015, which is awarded by the Bel Art gallery in cooperation with the Novi Sad fair.
