Multimedia artist Dragan Vojvodić began his art studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo and graduated from the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad in 1995. He has received numerous research grants (University of Illinois at Chicago; EU Japan Fest in Tokyo; EKP Novi Sad 2021; DEPO 2015 in Pilsen, Czech Republic, etc.) and participated in several residency programs (SIM Residency in Reykjavik, Iceland; USF Verftet in Bergen, Norway; Gallery Titanik in Turku, Finland; Kamov Residency at MMSU in Rijeka, Croatia; Koli Residency in Joensuu, Finland; Konstepidemin in Gothenburg, Sweden; NCCA in St. Petersburg, Russia, etc.). He has taken part in numerous group exhibitions in Japan, Iceland, France, Germany, Austria, the region, etc., and held solo exhibitions in the region, the USA, Norway, Finland, Iceland, etc. He has participated in performance festivals in Croatia, Hungary, and Italy, and exhibited at Rogaland Kunstsenter in Stavanger, Norway; MMSU in Rijeka; Gallery of Contemporary Art Istria in Pula; Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina in Novi Sad; and the Centre for Contemporary Art of Montenegro in Podgorica, among others. He is a member of SULUV and ULUS. He is the founder and coordinator of NGO Art Box in Petrovaradin. He lives and works in Novi Sad.
LIGHT INTERMEZZO N. 24
,,The project’s title combines the semantics of the word “intermezzo” (interlude, pause, in music/theater; a composition/segment interpolated between other parts) with “light,” used in an ironic context as the antithesis to the narratives and subtext of the works themselves. The central element of the setup is light – illumination, insight, (self)reflection. It disperses, transforms, and takes on specific forms, allowing a series of exhibited light/reflective installations, in interaction, to create a new context. The presented conceptual works reexamine heritage, identity (History Repeat Itself), the inherent self (Silver Hole, If You Look Closely Enough You Will See, Speachless), and adopted narratives (The Personal is Political). The author utilizes light, mirrors, reflective foils as tools in his confrontation with the world. These elements, especially neon lighting, emit a coldness that negates the romantic notion of enjoying art. The works are reduced to objective statements, aiming to be truthful. Some works and narratives have a tautological value, representing what is visible, what they are composed of, or showcasing themselves as their own reference.”
