Bio
Born in 1928 in Philadelphia. Graduated from Columbia University in New York. She insists on the content concept of sculpture, on the narrative character of sculpted forms. Addressing urban themes, she builds complex scenes with illustrative directness, ennobling them by indicating a personal relationship. The sculptor tries to poeticize her sculptural representations and resorts to a certain stylization. This stylization is not aimed at purifying and simplifying the form, but at enriching and compacting an interesting whole. Such sculptures-ensembles are functionally completed by Sulrikijanova with coloristic intervention. The result of such an attitude is a humanized vision of the urban environment, a witty remark about the world and the time in which we live. – Sava Stepanov, art critic (Tera, 1989)
