Biography
Mrđan Bajić
He was born in Belgrade in 1957. He finished sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts in the class of Professor Jovan Kratohvil. Between 1985 and 1990, he worked at FLU as an assistant. In 1995, he received a scholarship from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation in Paris. Since 1997, he has been working as a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade. Bajić, according to Dr. Jasmine Čubrilo, belongs to the rhetorical current of the new art scene in Serbia that emerged in the early nineties of the 20th century. Actually, Bajić started to develop that rhetorical line in sculpture already during the eighties. In the first half of the 1990s, Bajić’s art is reflected in a stormy neo-expressionist expression, while in the second half of the 90s, there is a slight calming down of shapes and lines. The influence of Bajić’s art can also be seen in the works of many younger artists, his students. Mrđan Bajić exhibited independently in many European cities such as Belgrade, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Paris, Stockholm, Krakow, and his works were also seen at group exhibitions in Rome, New York, Sydney, Krakow, Paris, Graz, Copenhagen, Venice, Monaco and Thessaloniki. In 2002, Mrđan Bajić participated in the 25th biennial in Sao Paulo with the Jugomuzej project. In 2007, he performed at the 52nd Biennale of Visual Arts, where he represented Serbia with the Reset project.
