Biography
Meric Hizal
Born in 1943 in Istanbul, where she lives and works. She graduated from the Sculpture Department of the Istanbul State Fine Arts Academy in 1979. She received certificates from the Salzburg Summer Academy, Austria in 1977; the Paris National Post Graduate School of Fine Arts, France in 1982 and the Como
A. Ratti Higher Level Drawing Course in Italy in 1992. She worked with Françesco Somaini in sculpting and with M. Lupertz & G.T. Carmel in drawing. She participated in the 1st International Contemporary Art Exhibition in Istanbul, the Novi Sad Balkan Arts 1st International Contemporary Art Biennial and 1st International Art Biennial of Izmir. Utilising symbolic sundials and epigraphy, her works such as Peace for Everyone in Istanbul-Yıldız-Abbasağa Park and Red Scarf Monument in Antalya-Palmiye Park have connections with social memory and transform sculptures into public spaces.
